The International Pilates Heritage Congress held in Joseph Pilates hometown, Mönchengladbach, Germany, is known as the most prestigious International Pilates Congress in the world and this year it took place from 5 to 7 May.
The Congress is a Biennial event and it is a tribute to Joseph Pilates, celebrating his life and work at his birthplace. It started in May 2009 and it was an initiative by Lolita San Miguel - a first generation Pilates teacher who has apprenticed with both Carola Trier and Joseph and Clara Pilates and was certified by Joseph Pilates in 1967. The commemorative plaque shown in the picture - also an initiave of Ms. San Miguel - stands at the exact place of the house where Joseph Pilates was born.
This year was the second time I took part in the Congress and it was a fascinating experience! The attendance of this year was unprecedented - more than 200 people from all over the world - as was the quality of the participants. It was a very inspiring event with presenters that exceeded everyone’s expectations: Lolita San Miguel, Kathy Corey, Brett Howard, Alan Herdman, Joakim Valsinger and Jillian Hessel.
I’m most certainly looking forward to the next Congress in 2 years!
